How To Create a Timeline With Dropbox Paper

Timeline is worth remembering that it is a graphic resource that serves to explain a process or summarize the most important milestones or moments in a period of time. It can even be used to spread your professional experience in an original and attractive way.


Normally, any tool to create infographics can help you create this type of chart, like the ones we saw in a previous article entitled Explain it better with timelines or timelines. However, more specialized tools begin to emerge to create timelines in minutes and from templates.

As an example to highlight is Dropbox Paper, the online document editor that launched Dropbox a while ago and that among its latest updates includes the possibility of designing your own timeline comfortably.

Timelines In Minutes

When you access your Dropbox space, in addition to uploading and sharing files and folders, you can also create documents compatible with Microsoft and Google: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Documents, Spreadsheets and Presentations. In addition, you can create your own documents through Dropbox Paper, which you will find if you click on the Create a file drop-down.

Once we open a new Dropbox Paper document, if we look in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen, we will find a calendar icon. When pressed, the blank document will be transformed to house a timeline.

With a minimalist a priori style, we can add elements to the timeline and introduce a headline and description to each one, as well as change the colour of each content card. On the other hand, if we place the cursor in the right corner of the timeline, we will have the possibility to change the range of dates to see one or two weeks, one or three months or a whole year, depending on what time frame we want dimension in the timeline.


Next to the elements that we can insert into the timeline, it is also possible to add milestones if we click on the time slot where we see the days or months. Milestones add a vertical line and can serve as a notice for meeting dates or to highlight an important fact.

Also, in the inserted elements you can include people that you have in your contact list to include them in the timeline. On the other hand, the timeline can be a part of a more complex element that includes multimedia content, tables, lists, text fragments and any other resource you will find in the lower toolbar of Dropbox Paper.

Timelines or timelines of Dropbox Paper can be used in two ways. On the one hand, it will help us to design simple timelines in minutes to share them or present them in talks in front of the public or in a work meeting. Secondly, you can help us organize a team project by distributing tasks among the members instead of using Trello or Asana tools or as a compliment.

In both cases, it is possible to share the timeline or timeline by clicking on the Copy link and Submit document icons that you will find at the top of the screen, next to the Share button. In one case, you will give access to other people to see the document, and in the second, it will serve to show the timeline in full screen as support for a presentation.
